New over-the-counter COVID-19 antigen test

Introducing a new over-the-counter COVID-19 antigen test that has received FDA Emergency Use Authorization for self-testing without the need for a prescription from a healthcare professional.

This test, which is packaged with two tests per box, is indicated for serial testing. Customers will simply test themselves twice within 3 days, with at least 36 hours between each test. By testing more frequently, customers may detect COVID-19 more quickly and reduce the spread of infection.

There are several FDA-approved rapid tests on the market including Abbott BinaxNow, Ellume and Quidel QuickVue. Each test kit can be used to test adults and children aged 2 and up, regardless of whether they have symptoms.

These products have not been FDA cleared or approved but has been authorized by the FDA under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). These products have been authorized only for the detection of proteins from SARS-CoV-2, not for any other viruses or pathogens, and are only authorized for the duration of the declaration that circumstances exist justifying the authorization of emergency use of in vitro diagnostics for detection and/or diagnosis of COVID-19 under Section 564(b)(1) of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, 21 U.S.C. § 360bbb-3(b)(1), unless the declaration is terminated or authorization is revoked sooner.
